HP has developed a series of proprietary inks and photo papers designed to achieve water and waterproof printing. These inks and photo papers provide photos with water resistance while bringing the user's desired rich colors and sharp images.

Water resistance means that the correct ink is used in conjunction with the correct photo paper. Although a piece of photographic paper looks very ordinary, and a drop of ink seems to be just a subtle molecular class on a brilliant color photograph, the ink and photo paper contain an unusually complex technology behind it.
There are usually two photographic paper coating technologies in the study: swellable coatings and nano-porous coatings.
Swelling photo papers, such as HP Premium Plus photo paper, provide excellent image quality and fade resistance, but are generally less water resistant.
Nanoporous photographic papers: such as HP Advanced Photo Paper, consisting of a water-insoluble ceramic pigment, a short drying time, and excellent water resistance. Photographs printed on nanoporous paper can better protect the photos from splashed water and water on the hands.

In addition to the coating, the water resistance is also affected by the papermaking material. One of the reasons why HP Advanced Photo Paper has excellent water resistance (Hewlett-Packard tested and even if it is immersed in water for an hour without damaging the picture quality) is that the base layer of the photo paper lies on two layers of a plastic material called polyethylene. between.
These layers can increase the hardness, form a smooth and glossy surface, and prevent the base layer from being exposed to water. These layers also prevent the pigment ink from being rubbed off. Paper without such polyethylene protection is easily damaged by water.
The type of ink used in the printing process also affects the water resistance of the photograph. Ink is divided into two categories: dye inks and pigment inks. Pigment ink itself is insoluble in water and provides excellent water resistance. The dye ink must be soluble in water in order to adsorb on the paper coating. This solubility can cause the dye to dissolve when exposed to water, which can damage the photo quality.
High requirements for photo waterproof should be selected
Users who wish to obtain waterproof inkjet prints should choose pigmented inks and photo papers that use nanoporous coatings and polyethylene-protected substrates.
