On August 29, 2009, Zhou Jianmin Laboratory of Beijing Institute of Life Sciences published an article entitled "ETHYLENE INSENSITIVE3 and ETHYLENE INSENSITIVE3-LIKE1 Repress SALICYLIC ACID INDUCTION DEFICIENT2 Expression to Negatively Regulate Plant Innate Immunity in Arabidopsis" in The Plant Cell.
Salicylic acid (SA) is an important hormone in plant disease resistance, and its synthesis is precisely regulated. This article reported that the transcription factors EIN3 and EIL1 directly bind to the promoter region of the salicylic acid synthesis gene SID2, inhibit the synthesis of salicylic acid, and thus negatively regulate the plant immune response. The results also revealed a new cross-regulation between the ethylene signaling pathway and the salicylic acid signaling pathway.
The co-first authors of the article are Chen Huamin, Ph.D. of the Beijing Institute of Life Sciences, Xue Li, Ph.D., and Satya Chintamanani, University of Kansas; Lin Huiqiong, Haitao Cui, Hugo Germain, University of British Columbia, Shanghai Jiaotong Dr. Chai Rui from the University, Professor Zuo Jianru from the Institute of Genetics and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Tang Xiaoyan from the University of Kansas, Dr. Li Xin from the University of British Columbia, and Professor Guo Hongwei from Peking University; Dr. Zhou Jianmin are the corresponding authors of this article. The research was funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission.
