There are four ways to convert colors between different icc, namely: perceptible, relative chroma, saturation, absolute chroma (can be found in photoshop color management panel and convert to profile panel)
Perceptual rendering intent
This is the most commonly used conversion method. This method changes all colors in the source device's color space on the basis of keeping the relationship between all colors unchanged, but keeps all colors unchanged in the overall sense.
This is because our eyes are more sensitive to the interrelationships between colors, but not so sensitive to the absolute value of colors. It is more suitable for the conversion of the smaller CMYK color gamut of the RGB color gamut of the car.
Simple understanding: it can be called overall compression. The advantage is that it can maintain the contrast between all the colors on the image. The disadvantage is that each color on the image will change. It can often be seen that the overall image will become lighter.
Keep it bright, but the colors will be inaccurate.
Relative chromaticity (media-relative colorimetric rendering intent)
Relative chroma is to accurately reproduce all colors in the excellent gamut, and cut out the colors outside the gamut, and convert the cut colors to the closest reproducible colors. Relative chroma rendering intent is a better choice for image reproduction than perceiving rendering intent, because it retains more of the original color. It is suitable for the conversion between ICCs with little difference in color gamut, such as the conversion of Japanese pre-press CMYK icc to American icc.
Simple understanding: try to be as original as possible. The advantage is that most colors do not change, and the disadvantage is that the colors that individually exceed the color gamut vary greatly.
Saturation (saturation rendering intent)
This method tries to maintain the vividness of the color, and does not care much about the accuracy of the color. It maps the most saturated color in the source device's color space to the most saturated color in the target device. This method is suitable for the copying of various charts and other commercial graphics, or for making maps with colored marks of height or depth, as well as cartoons and comics.
Absolute colorimetric (ICC-absolute colorimetric rendering intent)
Absolute chromaticity does not map the white point of the source device color space to the white point of the target device color space. If the white of the source device's color space is bluish, and the white paper of the target device's color space is slightly yellow, when using absolute chromaticity to reproduce the intention, some green ink will be added to the white area of the output to simulate the original white. The intention of absolute chroma reproduction is mainly designed for proofing, the purpose is to simulate the copy effect of the final output device on another proofing device.
Simple understanding: Simulating paper white, white changes greatly. It is not suitable for general conversion, but it is only used in rare cases and you don't need to master it.
The conversion between different ICCs must follow these four conversion methods. At the same time, when we convert the icc file of the image, it is best to look at what changes the different conversion methods bring to the image, and choose the conversion method that is most suitable for the existing image.
