American scientists discover the most solid material in the world

According to foreign media reports, a physics research group at Columbia University in the United States has announced that a large number of test results show that graphene found in 2004 is now the world's most solid material known. Scientists have published this research result in the newly published "Science" magazine.

Graphene is a single-layered carbon atomic material that is stripped from a graphite material and is a two-dimensional structure of carbon. The thickness of this graphite crystal film is only 0.335 nanometers, and the 200,000 films are stacked together, and only one hair is thick. It was first discovered by the teams of Kostya Novosev and Andrge Gaim of the University of Manchester in 2004.

Physicists at Columbia University conducted a comprehensive study of the mechanical properties of graphene. During the experiment, they selected some graphene particles between 10-20 μm as the research object. The researchers first placed these graphene samples on a thin crystalline plate with holes drilled in the surface. These holes were between 1-1.5 microns in diameter. Later, they used diamond-made probes to exert pressure on the graphenes placed on the holes to test their ability to withstand them.

The researchers found that before the graphene sample particles started to crack, they could withstand a maximum pressure of approximately 2.9 micron per 100 nanometers. According to scientists' calculations, this result is equivalent to applying 55 Newtons of pressure to break 1-meter-long graphene. If physicists can take out graphene (thickness about 100 nanometers) of graphene with a thickness equal to that of ordinary food plastic bags, it will take about 20,000 lbs. of pressure to tear it. In other words, if you make bags with graphene, it will be able to withstand about two tons of items.

Physicists at Columbia University also emphasize that graphene has a unique array of unique properties in addition to its exceptionally strong nature. It is reported that graphene is also the best known material with the most conductive properties, which makes it extremely useful in the field of microelectronics. Some experts pointed out that if you use graphene to make micro-transistors, you will be able to greatly increase the speed of computer computing.
