Tektronix oscilloscope 100G electrical interface automatic test solution

Tektronix Technologies, Inc., the world's leading provider of measurement solutions, today announced a new automated compliance test solution for the four 100G electrical interfaces specified in the IEEE 802.3bm and 802.3bj specifications.

The new TekExpress application is suitable for Tektronix performance oscilloscopes from 33 GHz up to 70 GHz, meeting the electrical interface verification and characterization requirements of 100G Ethernet (IEEE 802.3bj and IEEE 802.3bm Appendix 83). The specific technologies supported are 100GBASE-CR4/KR4 and CAUI4, which are the main electrical interface specifications used by 100G Ethernet. With these new applications, Tektronix now offers the industry's most complete set of IEEE 802.3bm and 802.3bj solutions, covering both optical interface (100GBASE-SR4) verification and electrical interface verification.

The IEEE 802.3 specification is cumbersome and evolving, and it is challenging for test engineers to grasp such a large specification. Tektronix works with a number of standards bodies to leverage its expertise to help translate industry-standard test requirements into easy-to-use turnkey test solutions that provide clear and accurate characterization reports. Reducing test and verification complexity is critical to the timely availability of interchangeable 100G optical and electrical interface modules.

"The IEEE Data Communications Standards Compliance Test is essentially a temporary test because there is no formal certification process yet," said Brian Reich, General Manager of High Performance Oscilloscopes at Tektronix Technologies. "Tektronix fills this gap and introduces a common set of tools. Can be used to provide a consistent set of metrics that enable designers to compare the electrical or optical interface performance of designs and components."

The Tektronix CAUI4/KR4/CR4 automated test solution delivers unprecedented low noise and measurement accuracy with the unique Asynchronous Timing Interleaving (ATI) technology in the DPO70000SX 70 and 50 GHz oscilloscopes. Conventional instruments that use synchronous timing interleaving structures are either too noisy or have insufficient bandwidth to effectively analyze the noise and jitter of these complex electrical interface signals. The ATI-acquired signal, combined with the latest 100G CAUI4/KR4/CR4 TekExpress solution, provides a powerful combination of features never before seen in real-time oscilloscopes.
