Sri Lankan fashion designer Charlene Thuring is the founder of the clothing brand charlene, which is aimed at fashion-forward girls. Recently, Charlene has launched a unique service - making 3D printed wedding dresses for the bride. At the recent Colombo Fashion Week, the young designer showed the public the first 3D printed wedding dress in Sri Lanka's history. It is understood that in order to make this skirt from idea to reality, Charlene also formed a partnership with Sri Lanka's first rapid prototyping company 3D Concept Studio.
“When I first heard about the great technology of 3D printing, I kept thinking about how to use it in my design.†Charlene Thuring said: “At the same time, I have to wait patiently for customers who are willing to accept it. Appeared, because there has never been such a dress before the Sri Lankan clothing industry, so relatively conservative people may not accept it. The most suitable are those who want to have a different wedding dress, because these people are more willing to accept fresh thing."
Although I am very enthusiastic about 3D printing, unfortunately, Charlene is still a layman for this technology, so she can only incorporate 3D printing into her own fashion design under the guidance of 3D Concept Studio. Thanks to the latter's rich 3D printing knowledge and helpful help, Charlene quickly understood this emerging technology and further released her creativity.
“I really want to know how everything is created, so I asked 3D Concept Studio a lot of questions and I got a satisfactory answer. These questions helped me learn how to use 3D printing technology in my own design. The end result is that we got a super excited bride, because she was wearing the only 3D printed wedding dress in China and spent the most important day in her life,†Charlene said.
“Although it was the first time to use 3D printing technology, Charlene has been very skilled,†said Nissanga Warnapura, founder and CEO of 3D Concept Studio. “In the end, the dress we made was not only beautiful, but also gave the bride a great freedom to make a seamless transition from the wedding ceremony to the reception, because the dress can be disassembled and replaced with a more comfortable dress. 3D printing Technology has great potential for application in the fashion industry in Sri Lanka. Our designers can use it to break the traditional constraints and explore a wider range of shapes and designs."
