Buffalo horn is cheap and easy to obtain, but its effect has not been found for thousands of years, and it is finally used instead of rhino horn for medicine, further illustrating that Chinese medicine is not a self-advertised experience.
China joined the organization of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Wild Animals and Plants in 1981. To deal with the ban on the trade of rhino horns and tiger bones, the convention organization sent a technical delegation to China, but no progress was made. Subsequently, a political delegation was sent to China, prompting China to ban the trade of rhino horn and tiger bones in 1993, and delete it from the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. This move allowed a large number of African rhinos to survive, but it was too late for the wild tigers in China. Regarding the protection of musk deer, the convention organization specifically issued relevant resolutions, but China did not implement the resolution well. The treaty organization believes that the trade of musk products has threatened the survival of this species, including all Musk species distributed in China as endangered class I, and recommended that China implement the resolution, otherwise it will take further action.
The threat of traditional Chinese medicine to plant species and the ecological environment is also worrying. Such as collecting licorice to destroy grassland vegetation, digging Cistanche wildly to make it into the protection list, wild ginseng has been extremely rare and so on. Cordyceps is a typical example. Cordyceps has always been regarded as the best by the Chinese. Together with ginseng and deer antler, it has been called the “three treasures of Chinaâ€. In recent years, it has been highly respected and the price has reached an astonishing level. In fact, Cordyceps is nothing more than a complex of fungus parasites and larval carcasses formed on moth larvae. This parasitic phenomenon is not uncommon in the biological world. According to incomplete statistics, there are hundreds of similar parasitic species in the world, and there are dozens of them in China.
The ancients did not know that Cordyceps sinensis was just a combination of insects and fungi, and mistakenly thought that this creature "winter is insects and summer is grass", naturally it will feel magical, and further guess that it must have a mysterious medicinal effect. The hype of Cordyceps has been going on for a long time, but so far no specific active ingredients have been found, and there is no real evidence of efficacy.
