Japan develops technology for turning sludge into fuel A company in Lidong City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan has recently developed a new technology that can use special gas to fumigate sewage sludge and turn it into fuel. According to Yonghe company, the technology is to put 60 kg of dehydrated sludge in a tank with a diameter of about 1 meter and a length of about 2 meters, and then heat a solvent such as dichloromethane used as a metal mechanical detergent to 80 degrees Celsius. Then, the generated gas was used to fumigate the sludge for about 3 hours. After drying the fumigated sludge, about 16 kg of gray sand-like fuel can be obtained. Compared with the usual method of treating sludge by incineration, the new technology can reduce the emission of greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. The general manager of this company pointed out that sludge treatment is a worldwide issue and hopes that this technology will be put to practical use as soon as possible.
