Recycle of Epoxy Resin Waste Paper

According to "Taiwan Forestry Industry", due to the shortage of environmental protection pressure on papermaking fiber raw materials, the pulp and paper industry has been urged to pay attention to the recovery and utilization of waste paper, especially the recovery and utilization of long-fiber wet waste paper containing epoxy resin.

Because wet strength paper added with formaldehyde resin is harmful to human health, most of the wet strength papers produced use PAE (a kind of resin containing epichlorohydrin) that does not contain formaldehyde, and wet strength agents. This kind of resin is very effective for increasing the wet strength of the paper sheet, but the paper fibers are not easily broken when recycled with conventional sodium hydroxide and hypochlorite treatments.

In this test, different oxidants were used to treat long-fiber wet strength paper containing epoxy resin. The dispersive fiber yield, pulp whiteness, and strength were used to assess the effectiveness of the oxidant treatment. The results showed that the two-stage hypochlorite-hydrogen peroxide solution had the best effect on the dispersed pulp, and the two-stage hydrogen peroxide solution was the second, but the yield of the fiber was increased, and the strength of recycled fibers and paper sheets could be improved.
