BASF's new light stabilizer approved for food packaging

The German company BASF's polyolefin light stabilizer grade Uvinul 5050H has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in flour packaging, grain woven bags and milk containers for food contact.

Uvinul5050H is BASF's newly developed stabilizer. It is a sterically hindered amine light stabilizer that captures the free radicals generated by plastics after ultraviolet irradiation and prevents plastics from exposure to outdoor development and degradation. In addition, Uvinul5050H also has the following advantages: It can improve the antistatic properties of plastics, and does not reflect the fluororesilience of the processing aids. It has good compatibility with the colorants; the product is a very fluid, non-dust particulate material.
