Domestic Paper Cellular Industry Development (I)

Paper honeycomb has been developing in China for more than 10 years. During this period, it has experienced many climaxes and low tides. Under the promotion of all walks of life, the paper honeycomb industry has formed a certain scale on the whole. In individual fields, it has the product and market foundation for long-term survival and development. However, the problems exposed during the development process are not optimistic. We need to calmly analyze and treat them seriously in order to preserve existing achievements and continue to promote the rapid and sound development of China's paper honeycomb industry.
Development Status The paper honeycomb project was formally launched in China in 1992. It was originally developed in two directions: paper honeycomb building materials and paper honeycomb packaging. Its basic model is to learn from foreign experience. The first is the development and promotion of equipment. In the process, we will develop related processes, materials and product technologies. At present, this model is still the mainstream in the paper honeycomb industry. In principle, this model is not inappropriate, but due to excessive profit-taking behavior and weak technological development capabilities, the entire industry is developing slowly, resulting in a large number of low-quality, low-efficiency investments. This year, we organized a relatively in-depth and comprehensive investigation of the current status of industry development. We will provide several major results of the survey to our friends who care about the development of this industry for reference.
1, Relatively surplus investment, investment utilization is very low.
According to our statistics, since 1992, there have been more than 200 various kinds of cellular factories in the country, and about 150 of them are still in existence or operating. The total capacity of paper cores is 300,000 tons/year, and the processing capacity of various types of plates is about 200 million square meters. m/year. From January to June this year, the total industry plate production does not exceed 1.5 million square meters per month. Even if the 50% growth rate is expected in the second half of the year, the monthly output will not exceed 2.25 million square meters per month. Based on this calculation, the year 2002 industry The plate production can reach 22.5 million square meters, according to the average consumption of 1.4kg paper core per square meter of plate, the consumption is about 31,500 tons. Taking the current total production capacity as a reference, in 2002, the actual utilization rate of paper core processing capacity of the whole industry was 10.5%, and the utilization rate of paperboard processing capacity was 11.25%. To establish a paper honeycomb factory that can process paper cores and plates, the average investment in equipment is about 2 million yuan. Based on this, the investment in the industry equipment is about 300 million yuan. With reference to the utilization rate of equipment, even if only equipment investment is calculated, the investment will be used. The rate is only around 10%. If we count the investment in civil auxiliary machinery and equipment, the utilization rate will be even lower. In the course of the investigation, we found that this limited output was also concentrated in several relatively well-run businesses. Most of the companies still stopped production and trial production, and some companies had begun to switch production.
2, the product processing capability is of low quality.
In the survey, we found that, except for some companies with good foundations, most of the companies’ production processes are backward, or even lack the concept of process; the production is unstable and the production cost is high, resulting in high costs and the allocation of production costs is not high. Reasonable; product quality is not stable, at present in China, in addition to individual companies, the quality of paper core is a bottleneck restricting the development of the industry, ignoring the control of the technical quality indicators used for the production of raw materials, high water content of the paperboard, poor post-processing capacity, product processing quality It is difficult to adapt to market requirements. These problems are the most direct limitations of product development and market development.
3, rough limited product basis.
During our exchanges with our customers and industry manufacturers, we realized that the weak product base is the main reason for the separation of the honeycomb manufacturers from the market. Paper core and cardboard are only front-end (upstream) products in the entire cellular industry chain, and must rely on a mature and perfect application market to support them. Although customers are the main players in the application market, they do not assume the obligations of their product bases. In the survey, all manufacturers reported that they could not find the market, but the fact is that China's cellular market is still basically a blank. As long as we can provide products whose performance and price can be accepted by customers, we will have a market. The key to the problem is that we cannot simply look for the paper core and paperboard market, we cannot simply equate market development with the so-called public relations, hype, price wars, etc. We can't simply imitate the products of foreign companies or other companies and we should gradually establish the company. Its own technological development capability forms the individuality of the company's products and establishes a product foundation that can support enterprises' participation in market competition.
In summary, combined with our many years of business practices, we believe that the current state of the industry is mainly due to the following reasons:
